    Question about felt recoil

The powder charge weight also effects recoil as all the powder is pushed out of the barrel as well. I often include recoil calculations when I'm bench racing options, I use JBM's calculator: https://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmrecoil-5.1.cgi Input looks like this: Output looks like this:

    Moving to the South?

I hang my own drywall and do my own roofs, but I don’t recommend either trade to anyone I know. I’d waaaaay rather do carpentry, but they all do need done.

    Moving to the South?

Vegas tract housing in ‘88? There’s definitely people breaking or turning a blind eye to the rules today who are profiting well off doing so.

    Moving to the South?

My wife just wishes a few more of them would stock the shelves at Winco.

    Moving to the South?

I was wondering if the influx would push down wages in some trades, apparently the answer is yes (not terribly surprising). I still think there’s lots of opportunity for people who take trades direct to consumer, but that takes additional skills, network, etc. If it makes you feel any better...

    Moving to the South?

Honest question, not trolling at all. Have you found it easier to make money in the trades in the valley since 2020? I have, and based on what I’m paying the few subs I use they have too. My observation is what I pay for labor has outpaced rent increases, as significant as they have been...

One of my favorites. Can’t be too sad about 88.

    Montana's Impossible Housing Situation

Framing material swings were wild for a bit there. I started one in March of 2020 and had the same good fortune on materials as you.

    Montana's Impossible Housing Situation

That all meshes with my numbers. I’ve done the bulk of the labor on my last couple, and come in around $165/sq ft cost of construction (no property). The current one will save a little on lumber costs but I’m making a few upgrades too, might end up a wash cost wise.

    Montana's Impossible Housing Situation

It’s a tricky dynamic for many young people around here, that’s for sure. Montana has become more desirable to live in since 2018, which will naturally increase housing costs, but won’t necessarily increase general wages. HCOL areas tend to have lots of economic opportunity, but not evenly...

Do you use a scope with target turrets?

When choosing between a scope that can sight my rifle in at one distance, and one that can sight it in at any distance, you’ll find me choosing the one that can always be on. MPBR is an option, but certainly has its own compromises. And you can still utilize it if you have a turret, if you so...

    VERY cool Leupold......

Curious to see if the compass is sufficiently trustworthy to have the right bearing. Magnets on RF cases are hard on calibration retention, or so I've heard. I know when Sig added this feature with Basemap it was often pretty noticeably off regarding bearing angle.

    Gun cleaning frequency

I wipe down actions as needed based on feel. I’m undecided on barrel cleaning, but I’m doing a pretty well controlled test of zero cleaning on my latest match rifle barrel. I’ll publish results at some point, but 650 rds in so far so good. There are many cleaning strategies employed by high...

Gun cases are cool and so is gun etiquette!

Townsend is a pretty decent range environment. I’m spoiled for the time being, shot with my daughter for 3 hours this afternoon with zero company and I prefer the range itself, not to mention it’s WAY closer for me. Vector X’s are very interesting to me, I am looking forward to checking a pair...

Gun cases are cool and so is gun etiquette!

You guys are making me appreciate my private range access more and more… I think it’s been 10 or so trips since I had to share with someone I wasn’t meeting there. It’ll tick up a skosh with fall approaching, but it’s still a fantastic luxury for someone who really enjoys shooting.

Talked me out of it. 300 Rum with lots of extras.

You saying you don’t miss seeing stars when you pull the trigger? Inherited a stainless Browning Abolt 300 Win Mag with a Leupold 3.5-10 from my grandfather a few years ago. I thought it was the pinnacle of big game hunting rifles…when I was 15. Shot it for the first time yesterday and it...

    Rangefinding binoculars

I’ve looked through a decent cross section of the options on the market with the exception of the ones that have come out this year. The Swaro’s are the first pair that I’ve double checked were rangefinding bino’s after looking through them, definitely my favorite I’ve tried from an optical...
