Somebody hasn't done their homework... None of these "current" numbers are accurate.
"Under the bill, for those first-in-line 40% of nonresidents, fees would jump nearly 118% from $576 to $1,258 for elk tags. Prices would go from $288 to $826 for deer (a 187% jump) and from $288 to $874 for...
Nice recap, wllm. Thanks for the share. It's not just a swamp thing either; laurel/rhododendron thickets in Appalachia are similarly frustrating to hunt.
@TOGIE I think the "limited public land" is true some places, but many eastern states have more public land than you could ever want to try...
B & C don't get added into the total score so they don't matter in that regard. It looks like you did B right, but C is greatest spread of the antlers, outside to outside. On a rack shaped like yours that is probably the outsides of the main beams, with the tape/string pulled across the width...
In my early teens I hunted with a group of older Mennonite fellas who showed me the ropes of public land hunting in northern PA. Every year when we drove by one of the mountains on our way to camp, one of them would say "Ahh, there's Sweater-Girl Peak." Even naive, sheltered me didn't have to...
25+ years ago, national forest in WV
Bit more recent, but still before I started putting them in a pack. Killed a couple miles from the gate. Was dragging on a gated trail when this stranger showed up and wanted to haul the buck for me.
PA whitetails a few years back. My daughter and I...
"How do I answer my fellow Wyoming resident hunters when they argue with me that Wyoming should treat non-residents in the same fashion that states like Utah treat non-residents?"
Perhaps consider how the Utah model treats residents before following their lead? Yes, elk populations in WY have...
The GC pull a tooth when we check a bear. 1 year 10 months, officially. That one was from 'big woods' in northern PA. The chubby cub was here in farm country.
At last, a thread I can contribute to.
First bear hunt in New Brunswick, fresh outta college 1996. 90# spring cub. Hat was way too big for the bear.
PA, ~2000. Doing drives with about a dozen friends, most of us standing around after a drive. I just left the group to go round up a couple...
Nice find! I looked at AT4 but ended up going SLT. Either way, they are awesome trucks. Ride feels more like a good sedan than a pickup.
Mine w/1500# of lime in the box.
Thanks @Oak. From that plan, modeled population was reduced by about 35% and stayed around that level from 2004-2009, then climbed steadily back up to higher numbers than sometime before 1990.
Also from that plan:
"Based on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission (CPWC)
CWD policy at the...
It would be interesting to see the herd density trend over that same period of time - i.e. animals per unit of area. Maybe that information is out there elsewhere? If that 20% doe harvest ~2003 plus "focal culling" plus some hard winters resulted in dramatically lower deer density it might be...
I hung mine as a euro for a while, until I finished tanning the cape and was ready to mount it. We were still bumping into the fronts, and they had no cap "gouge yer eye out" potential if you didn't mind what you were doing near it.
Same bull as pictured in my office above, as a euro in my...
8' ceiling, 46" beams, ~336" gross. Max projection from the wall (his fronts) is ~48". His right beam would have been 6"-7" into the wall so made the form a wall pedestal to get the clearance I needed for that. Nose is about 50" off the floor.
Having done this with my three (start em young, keep it fun,...) the one thought I'd offer is to think about taking them one at a time. That one on one time with you is a big big deal. Plus it minimizes the shenanigans in pic #2. ;)
My youngest will soon be 18. My 22 yo daughter is pretty...
