Definitely go with something other than the SST if the plan ever comes together. Those things expand inconsistently at best with a full strength load. Might looks at something like this
Got a brand new T3X set up recently. When function testing today, bolt was tough to close with several brands of factory ammo and left the pictured ejector marks. Never been fired. One brand of factory chambered normally, two did not. Anyone know an easier fix than sending back to Tikka? Soak...
I've got two western muzzleloader tags this year. My setup is a CVA Optima .50 shooting 250 grain Thors, which chronos around 1875 FPS over 90 grains by volume of T7. Truly, 100-125 yards is as far as a muzzleloading rifle has any business shooting at a big game animal, IMO... one, it's very...
Great call on talking to the guys at muzzle-loaders.com, they are awesome in every respect. And that Optima is an excellent choice to get your feet wet in the world of blackpowder hunting- I've had one for several years and love it. Going to be getting very close with mine here over the course...
100% with you on this. I have a kind of comical looking whitetail shoulder mount my uncle killed in the early 80s, and I think it's sweet. I know my grandfather hunted, and I'd love to know what happened to any taxidermy he may have had.
Also, to answer my own question earlier in this thread...
Got the last week in August to do some fly fishing, hiking and sightseeing between tags... Anyone got recommendations on spots to check out between Denver and Gunnison? Feel free to PM if that would be better. Thanks in advance for any input!
I'm in a group of 3 friends who all applied for one of the easier units to draw doe antelope tags in. Draw odds last year were over 30%, and we did 3 individual applications. None of us drew it.
Did draw doe tags in a unit with almost zero public. Will probably burn those.
Tough year.
This thread brings up an excellent point that I think would be very useful for a lot of people to consider. Just burned my first set of points this year on a mule deer tag, and need to start doing more of that.
Clock is ticking for all of us. Go hunt.
AHAHA LOOKS LIKE I PICKED THE RIGHT GAS STATION BOYS- GOING TO NEVADA FOR BLACKPOWDER COW ELK!!! Man that is just so sick I cannot even explain, I needed a W in my life and there it is
Me too! This is a big year from me- with 4 instead of 3 points, my draw odds have increased to the likelihood of "crackhead finding a winning lottery ticket in the trash of a gas station" from the previous year's likelihood of "Hilary accurately reporting her trading activity to the SEC." I'll...
Same. Over ten thousand Antelope tags cut this year in WY, which is like a fourth of what they offered last year... glad to see it, but a good year to concentrate efforts elsewhere
I wouldn't count any chickens before they hatch... between the huge number of cuts in WY and other western states, I'd expect a ton more applicants for a smaller number of tags just about everywhere this year
Dang. WY Pronghorn just can't catch a break. Looks like it's been relatively rare to find it in free ranging ungulates... hopefully it stays that way.
Good year to let a tag or two burn.
Over 90% of my workouts since the first 2020 lockdown have been at home body weight stuff. While this is reasonably effective, all you have to do is hit a full olympic lifting workout to see the deficiencies this leaves in strength specifically. Last week was the first time I touched a barbell...
Thoughts so far? Might have to check that one out. the factual history of the west is so wild it makes these new drama series on Netflix look tame.
Have a copy of Undaunted Courage, PS, if anyone wants to do a book exchange! Very interesting read.
