Yes, I agree. Was a massive uproar and the organizers didn't want the grief. But we see a few cats while hunting and they definitely need to be controlled.
Interesting to hear the discussion on strava etc. Occasionally I time my runs when getting close to an event and I want to check my time, but mostly no tracking or even a watch. I just use perceived effort, that way every run and bike is a success :)
Since putting my son in for an elk tag (changed it to GEN) and cow tag I have been trying to forget about the draw dates so I don’t spend 4 months wondering if I’ll draw haha but I did google the draw date as it’s getting close.
Is this Thursday the draw date every one is expecting?
Keep in touch and I can tell you about a good chamois and fallow spot for 2025 if thats what you decide. Its been 100% success from my 10+ trips.
I agree, hunting tahr annually is easy enough, even considering the travel from the US. Not real expensive DIY, and there is also plenty of walk-in...
Shame about the heli hunting, as you say common practice here unfortunately and something we had to put up with. The wind is also common here and can make flying and alpine hunting interesting!
But sounds like you had a awesome trip and I'm sure there will be plenty of bulls around for your...
That’s a great NZ public land stag, you are rightly proud! It sounds like a great kiwi type adventure too, although most kiwis would have shot the first stag and then looked for bigger haha Anyway well done and looking forward to hearing about the tahr hunt.
I shot an antelope with my bow the first year I hunted them. Wasn’t keen to sit water so hunted spot and stalk. Took me a few days to get one, but the trick for me was using landscape features to get close. I snuck up a drain and popped over for a successful shot (which I had ranged previously)...
If anyone is interested, back in February I completed a race across the South Island of New Zealand. 243km of mountian running, road biking and grade 2 kayaking. One hell of an adventure! Check out coasttocoast.co.nz if you want details of the race.
I have 8 elk and 4 deer points. I’m not planning to use these points for a few more years, so will have 10 and 6 by the time I apply.
Hopefully I’m being realistic, but based on point creep Im looking at a unit that took 7 elk and 3 deer points last year. Time will tell, if I didn’t have other...
I have two short term rentals, both not near where I live. We use the houses for our own vacations and also rent on AirBnB.
We always planned to make a decent return (and have) and see the rental side as a business, like any business its hard work. The key is to find local people that you...
My strategy is to mostly limit my applications to tags where I have a good chance to draw. That way I can book travel and vacation early and be reasonably confident of drawing a tag that works. Last minute travel is expensive.
The non-refundable costs for me are not only the usual Fish and...
I don't know about everyone else but it took me weeks to get my head around the MT draw changes, and how I can make it work for a return hunt in a couple of years. Problem is once the regs change again my strategy will probably be voided. Oh well, gives me something to do during application...
