Youth applications
I know what your mean about the Russian Roulette and logistics. I'm applying for my son for the second year in the WY draws. Youth hunter motivation?
I agree with Northwoods. Find things that interest him outdoors. My son is a motivated hunter but I'm sure a big part of his motivation is building a big fire at camp and telling campfire stories each night.- Kiwi

Yes, that’s my understanding you’ll need a permit to bring your rifle. I’ve heard they can take 4 months so recommend getting this done early. New Zealand Stag Hunt
Calling is common on public land hunts. I have used a cow horn and also an electronic caller (which has elk, red and sika deer calls), but now I just use a plastic Gatorade bottle with the end cut off :)- Kiwi

Yes, in general they have a lot of the same characteristics including the phases you mentioned. The hunting techniques are also similar in terms of call in during the roar and then finding the solo stags feeding post roar or as you call it late season. WY GEN Regions
Going to be very interesting to see the odds for next year. My son and I will be trying our luck again for WY elk, and will apply for the western region. I had thought the general tag quota would be higher than previous years but the proposed quotes look lower. -

Thanks. Yeah, excited to apply in WY next week! Ideally I’ll draw in WY but my son and I have a good number of points across the west so should draw something. If not then we will bear hunt with OTC tags. -

My son and I are planning a western hunt adventure for the first two weeks of Oct 2024. Our flights to SLC and Turo are already booked and now we just need to draw one of these tags: - Arizona elk - New Mexico elk (youth draw) - Wyoming elk - Wyoming pronghorn and deer (as a backup)- Kiwi
