When i was thinking i had to have a dedicated turkey gun, i really started thinking.
Lots of searching and research lead me to buying 2.
But neither are dedicated turkey guns, after getting a pheasant with my old .410.
I went with 20ga to help keep recoil down.
First one is a CZ 720 semi...
I know the red Loctite needs heat to release it.
Never did get the bolt out of the end of that crank shaft!!
I really can't see the factory using a thread locker on a muzzle brake.
Betting it's just carbon caked.
It's amazing how carbon penetrates in places!!
Congratulations and congratulations! Lol
Yeah, my old phone bit the dust.
Switched from Tracphone.
Their customer service is majorly lacking!
Tried to bring my old phone number over, but was easier to just say eff it!!
I'll text you my new #.
I have the single shot, brass in 45-70.
I was kinda bummed with Henry about it being a break open action, instead of a falling block like a Ruger #1.
Sights are kinda hard for my old eyes to see.
Thinking of putting a red dot on it.
Shooting Federal ammo right now.
325gr(?).
It's...
I got the Ziess V4 you mentioned.
The zero stop was a bit of a PITA to set.
But once set, has worked well.
Glass is good, as you'd expect from Ziess.
I got the 93(?) MOA reticle.
Euro Optics had it on sale when I got mine. $699.
That's the problem.
It didn't mushroom.
Bullet sized hole going in, bullet sized hole going out.
Luckily, shock & hole in vital area brought it down.
The ABLR are supposed to mushroom starting at 1,300fps.
So a hit at 3,000fps should have opened up nicely.
But no.
Looking good @nhenry!!
And bravo to you for experimenting!
If I may derail for a minute to help anyone else looking to do some self gunsmithing.
@BrentD suggestion to wrap tape around where nhenry was going to make his cut.
This is an oldtimers trick to help keep the wood fibers from flaying...
My friend (he's done black powder all his life) uses hot (boiling) water and vinegar to break through the nasty from an uncleaned revolver.
He's gotten several to shooting condition using this.
Well, i ended up getting a Traditions (can't recall the model) in 45.
Put an EGW base on it with a 3-9X40 Crimson Trace Hardline scope.
Interestingly enough, Traditions says NOT to use patched round ball or Minnie ball in it.
Sabot only.
I have an order in with Cutting Edge Bullets for...
I'd tend to agree with 300stw.
Vihtavouri N550, N565, N570, IMR7828, Retumbo, H1000 would do you better than IMR4350.
The 4831 would be close to RL19 burn wise.
Not the highest velocity, but decent accuracy.
RL23 and RL26 are good for the bullet weight, but finding any is hard to say the...
