My first time in Alaska I went fishing with a guy on the Little Susitna river and we spent out one night in a tent! worried me a bit but by sun up I finally got a little sleep. There's something you should really try if you go with someone else. Get a copy of Alaska Bear Tales and read the other...
I think you live over by Richland don't you? How is the res. doing for crappie and cats this year? Saw that photo of the chest of crappie. Most my crappie came from Prineville Res. and pretty much destroyed it last fall when they ran it out of water. Thing was pretty MTY with just the water...
I used to shoot them in Colorado and eat them. Kept the small ones and if one looked big, simply let it go. Also discarded any that didn't have a clear liver. I though they were good eating. Have never seen many around here but do see pigmy cotton tails now and then. They are small but good eating!
I kind of doubt animals will leave because they smell you at night. Used to take a wife hunting and camping with me and she'd bring her youngest son and while I'd be out hunting they would be watching animals walk through the camp site!
Nice job. I prefer blued metal and wood stocks! Just had to do the bedding on one I had barreled to 260 Rem. Smith did a good job on the metal but didn't like the bedding to much. Wasn't shooting well so re-did the bedding and now it shoots great!
I have a wildcat, 6.5x06. But I've never really understood the need for wildcat's. Shoot I use 140gr bullet's in my 6.5x06 and years ago in a 270 I had I also shot 140gr bullet's! Had a 280 years before that 270 and shot 145gr bullet's in it!
The other night I was loading some 243's and 260's...
You'll probably find that Yellowstone bears have a lot more inter action with human's than Alaska bears. Imagine getting out of your car to hand feed an Alaskan bear some treats!
I've got a Garmin 430 tracking collar for three dog's. Not one complaint. It is replacing a Garmin 320 I used for well over ten years. With that old 320 I have tracked a dog at at 2 1/2 miles in fairly open country. With this new 430 I have been able to get the dogs at excess of 2 mile several...
With my 6.5's I've found myself using Speer Hot Core's again after years of Hornady spire points. Used Speer 160gr Hot Cores in a 7mm mag years ago, great bullet! Now I have hot cores in my 6.5's and they are shooting better than I need. First I've heard about "Speer Impact" bullet's. I believe...
Anybody have several rifles all based on the same cartridge case? I've got a 25-06, 6.5-06 and 30-06. Awful easy to find case's when I need them. Also have a 243, 260, and used a 308 for years. Again, easy to find case's and if you choose military case's, fairly inexpensive to boot.
Bullets...
Sitting here thinking there's one huge problem with a bull like that. Some one has to carry it out! Then got to the photo of the 4 wheeler! Got myself one this year for no other reason than at 78 yrs I'm just to old to pack out even a deer any more. Was thinking about hunting just cottontails...
Not about the trophy for me either, I hunt for meat. Well think I do! If I was to run into a nice buck or bull elk I wouldn't hold my fire I'm sure! That's two nice looking elk mounts!
I'd pass on that 375! What ever it is I'm hunting, I use a rifle I have complete faith in. And of course I'm old so eye's aren't prime. Might think of using my 260 Rem if I was to go with its 2-7x scope set on 2x!
Speaking of Muflon's, I was up outside town a few years ago and found a young dead one. Called F&G and they told me there were still some running around here and down by the John Day. seem's they were brought in years ago just for people to hunt on private ranch's.
I think about going about 300mi fishing and how to transport a bunch of fish back. Think I have it. One of those small freezers from the Bi Mart and a gas generator! Have to start the freezer early I suspect but should work well to get the fish home in good shape.
When I lived near Big Fork a friend and I went to the Yaak looking for a spring bear. Didn't make it, just to much snow up there back then. But we used to see a lot of them around Lakeside and out west of Kalispell. Made several trips up to Polebridge and have never seen one up there no matter...
I've had several different e-collars and hands down best has been the Dogtra's I have now. 1500 NCP is pushing maybe 16yrs and it quit charging on me. Found out there a small metal tab in the plug in hole to charge it and the thing was missing. Won't charge without that part! Well called Dogtra...
