Been reading some more and people sure seem to like the e-Tip bullet's. I've never used them but wouldn't try them either. Problem for me would be that tip. When it hit's, that tip has to go somewhere and that's back into the bullet. Wonder what that would do to the bullet? If I wanted to try an...
Years ago I had a Sako L61 in 7mm Rem Mag and had the throat opened a bit so I could seat out a 160gr Speer HC to just off the lands and base of the bullet seated at the intersection of the neck and top of the shoulder. Load I'd worked up for it was 69.0 grs N-205, probably won't find it today...
Don't think he needs a big long range magnum. Need cartridges that will do the job at normal distances without jaring the kids. If he hand loads, 6.5x55, 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 Rem. I have the 6.5x55 and the 260 Rem. 6.5x55 was bought some years ago hoping my grand daughter might take up hunting...
When I was shooting a 7x57 the bullet I found to shoot best was a 154gr Hornady RN. Was not any kind of a hotrod but did the job very well. Tat 7x57 was a Ruger m77 when they first came out! I'd think loads for a mod 93 would not be so good with modern loads.
All it's supposed to tell you is how bad the human eye is at picking the center point. You could have a rifle that will stack bullet's off the bench but take away the aiming point and try it! Farther away is the aiming point harder it is to do!
Get a piece of typing paper and put it on the table in front of you. Now take a pencil and mark the center of the paper. Next use a straight edge and make an x going from corner to corner on the paper. Center of the x marks the center of the paper. How much did you miss by? There's a reason for...
For the most part pretty bad around here. My favorite spot Clarno on the John Day River. water just to high and fast to fish. Been down several times and have to be careful or I'm gonna kill myself getting near enough to fish. Would love to go to Brownlee but good four hr drive and I have four...
sound to me like though should be given on going hunting in grizzly country as apposed to carrying bear spray. With both there seems to be a hard fact risk you take weather you want to or not!
Have a marlin 783 in 22 mag I use a 4x El Paso Weaver on, works fine. My 1903 30-06 has a 2 3/4x Redfield Widefield I bought new about 1970 for a 338 win mag; works fine! 25-06 is a 700 Rem with a 3-9x Bushnell on it, the Banner. Been using that 25-06 with that scope on and off over 35 yrs now...
Been there, done that. Got a 338 Wim Mag new in 1968. Was stationed in Lakeside Montana and close to Grizzly country. Figured I needed more than my 7mm mag. Well got a 338 mag and a box of ammo for it and stopped at the dump going home and tried it out. Three shots and the worst black and blue...
Years ago I went elk hunting with a friend in the Swan Range in Montana. I pitched a lean-to and he wanted nothing to do with it, thought it would be to cold. So he slep in the truck. next morning he complained how cold he'd got over night and didn't know how I could sleep outside. I was a lot...
There is a down side to having light trigger's and not shooting a lot! My 6.5x06 is a 700 with the factory trigger adjusted to 3# pull. I'm pretty used to it but have had other people tell me they didn't pull the trigger and it just went off! One thing to have a light trigger another thing to...
