I gave up on Sierra hunting bullets in the early 70's because they were just to explosive. Never have tried a pro hunter but sounds like Sierra might have fixed the problem. if I stumble into a box of 140gr Pro Hunter's just might try them in one of my 6.5's!
Stationed in Lakeside, Mont last few years in the service and lived about a year and a half in Alaska. Alaska is a great place to go but for living I'll take Montana every time! bad thing about Montana is the influx of hippie types is destroying it. Kalispell and Pole Bridge last time I was up...
Rule I learned in Alaska about side arms to carry. Carry a 44 mag. If you have bear trouble, shoot your buddy in the foot and run like h*ll! Actually did camp out a couple time up there. Kept a handgun and a rifle at my side while I slept. Spent a lot of time in their country but truth is, never...
Have used both cob and walnut. I think one cleans as well as the other but cob polish's the brass better! Cob does get caught in the flash hole if you tumble after re-sizing. I normally tumble after sizing. Not a big thing I don't sit down and try to do hundreds of cases at a time.
That was beautiful country! Is it out west of Grand Junction between there and the Utah border? Used to drive that a lot out of Denver and Greeley in road trucks. Always liked it over there!
Well I'm old now and don't shoot many of my rifles anymore. Have enough stuff, almost, to cover me the rest of my life. At my income level these days I would probably not take up reloading. Just getting to expensive. Of course I have not much of an idea what factory ammo cost's anymore either...
One more thing. About the buy once cry once idea. Completely wrong if you can't afford it in the first place. Buy what you can afford and if times get better and you want to move up, do it. Be to bad to go blow a ton of money on something with the buy once cry once mentality then find out you...
Thing about bino's for me is they are just one more thing to carry. I've got an old pair of inexpensive Bushnell's I seldom take anywhere. Got them used over 20 yrs ago and I can still see more than I want to through them. Sent a Nikon scope in for repair about the time they quit the scope...
I suspect that is the deal with lots of shooter's. They buy cartridges because they are cool, not much any other reason. Ask, what will a 7mm WSM do that a plain ole 280 won't do? Probably keep you hunting for case's!
Best hunting story I've read in a long long time! Beautiful photo's and great video. I envy you! My days of being able to do that are past but this story was really really good. Have seen several Desert Bighorns in my life. I40 coming out of Utah into a bit of Arizona is absolutely beautiful and...
This would be my choice. That and about a 50hp pump I'd be good to go. I have experienced falling into cold water. Actually Flathead lake near Lakeside, Mont, in Feb one year. Immediately lost my breath but was close enough to shore to stand up. Got onto shore and built a fire and removed the...
I had that done to a Sako L61 years ago in Montana. Loaded a dummy round with the 160gr Speer HC seated to the junction of the shoulder and base of the neck. Really made a couple difference's. first accuracy went from right at 3/4" to 1/2" all the time. Next was powder chg. Origionally was using...
Pretty much most anything a 458 Win Mag will do so will most any other cartridge! Killing is not so much about what cartridge your using as it is how you use what you have! I have been through magnumitus and these days my two favorite cartridges for pretty much everything are the 6.5x55 and 260...
You noticed that huh? I wonder about some of the weapons used to hunt as muzzle loaders and even bows. Custer probably got killed with a long bow! Not a compound! Davy Crockett never had a muzzle loader with a plastic stock and I suspect Indians in 1850 rarely used compound bows! :)
