Shifting baseline...if you grew up in the west and started hunting 4, 5 decades ago...its a sad state of affairs.
If you live in suburban east coast and have whitetail hunted for a few years...montana is the promised land.
@Big Sky Guy do you guys age fish as well? I worked with some guys at the University of Idaho that used to age a ton of paddlefish from MT...those things were old! Anyways, would be cool to age some of the paddlefish marcus and michael and crew catch! $.02.
Yes, I'm sure there are many cases of trespass annually where citations are issued...not unique to WY at all. But we are talking corner crossing. You keep equating all trespass to this issue which is obfuscation at best.
I really don't see the feds getting involved in a trespass case of corner crossing. Being on BLM land is not a crime and its really not on them to enforce if someone trespassed private land to get to their lands. The issue would be up to DoJ to seek prosecution if there were to be federal...
On the lottery theme...perhaps the question outfitters should ask themselves is why in Montana are they not competitive enough to attract people who randomly draw NR tags? Do they not offer enough value to the consumer? People are not strictly DIY vs. Guided hunters....I am a DIY guy...
Didn't see this thread earlier - but I think Montana v. United States already settles this issue. The court held in that case that Tribes really do not have authority to regulate non-member hunting and fishing on non-tribal lands even though they are within the bounds of a reservation. Tribal...
A whole lot of not-selected's for our family...but I will have a MT gen deer tag and my wife drew a 45 rifle deer tag in Idaho...all we have to do is figure out what to do with our two boys (2 months old and 2.5 years old) during her hunt
Did not realize there were any 6's without electronics.
On the battery removal...yea, I think it could mitigate...and I'm betting prosecutors have better things to do with their time...but I'm not personally interested in going down that path. Would really like the extra magnification (4-24x)...
Curious if anyone with insights (or connections) to Leupold knows if they will ever consider making a VX6 that is legal in Idaho? I'm not much of a businessman but it just seems like it would not be hard to produce a vx6 without the electronics...so that it would be legal in one of the fastest...
I recently had the opportunity to learn more about the flight of 1877 with a handful of Nez Perce leaders and active duty US Army officers - a very engaging discussion. Despite a troubled and complex history, the mutual respect and sincere friendships that exist today between many senior Army...
Several years ago there was a snafu involving youth...something about eligibility...as I recall, there were a few hundred 10/11 yo kids who technically should not have been eligible to draw, but due to misinformation from some department staff they did apply and were awarded deer/elk/pronghorn...
The recommendation in the analysis is to only close moose hunting in GMU 23 to non-subsistence hunters (for conservation reasons). This would leave Carbiou hunting as is in both 23 and 26...and also no change to moose hunting in 26. Hopefully this recommendation holds...the analysis seems...
I think going with a new contractor would be warranted, but firing the person overseeing the draw is an overreaction. I agree mistakes like this should not be acceptable, but lets all take a deep breath here...nobody died. IDFG, even with the legislature forced contracted draw, has generally...
Slight quartering shots, likely the bullet touched some bone going in, but appeared to come apart very shallow. Similar situation a second time. Ultimately both animals died, but in both cases it was a long tracking effort and more follow up shots to finish them off. I'm not an expert in...
Barnes tsx have been my personal favorite. Perfect expansion and 99+% weight retention when I've recovered bullets. I've not got firsthand experience with some newer stuff because I've never had a reason to try anything else.
