Athlon Scopes
My wife has Athlon binoculars she uses pretty hard birding. The focus knob fell off, just from wear and tear. She sent them in for repair and they replaced the glasses with new ones. No questions asked. So she's a fan. -

Examples of elk absorbing shots and not acting hit?
My pet theory is sometimes, particularly on flatter ground, elk just lock up their legs and it's hard to tip them over. I saw one raghorn bull take two full magazines, one from a 30-06 and another from a 300 Savage at about 50 yards, before it finally gave in to gravity. Dead on its feet. I... -

Biggest damn rub tree I've seen in 43 years hunting. This one was in Montana. Maybe they make 'em bigger further north. What's the longest distance you would hike for an elk?
Interesting how this question can be answered differently. How far would you walk in PURSUIT OF an elk v. how far would you PACK OUT an elk? I know I walk in pursuit of elk far longer than I could ever pack one. -

For the record, llama meat is sold all over the Andes and is comparable to elk. Of course, they also eat guinea pigs. Which are not comparable to pigs, llamas, or elk. So take it as you wish. -

1 or 2 man tent
In the early days of September, I've often gotten away with a tarp and p-cord. But when the weather sours, it's nice to have a 2 person tent. My Big Agnes Copper Spur is still way lighter than any other backpacking tent I've ever owned and keeps me and my gear out of the storm.- Ben Long
