I concur you should do these either way. Maybe @buckbull should take over humor duties.
But dammit, I really like the Hunt recap Talkie so maybe I’ll keep that one. I’ve gotten a lot of messages that people want it to continue. I certainly hope people can take it as what it is…not a shaming...
Since the OP started with humorous threads, I’m getting a chuckle from this one lately.

Um, yes.
I just love reading compelling writing, and I thought compiling those at the end of the year was a nice way to close things out and make sure people didn’t miss some of the incredible reads that got posted during the season.
But I’m not going to lie- it took a lot of time and work...
All great nominees. I often give up on some of these off the rails threads and miss the deserving humor nominees anyway.
Honestly, I haven’t gotten all that excited about Talkies this year. I get tired of the whiners that take themselves and made-up awards too seriously. It started out fun, but...
Also thinking out loud…I would think the selective pressure due to selective breeding would more than swamp out any potential selection pressure from CWD. CWD itself is probably not imposing any selective pressure at all in your run of the mill captive facility. They would be depopulated once it...
No genetics with prions, as @brocksw described. They are not an organism, but a misfolded form of a normal protein produced by cervids. So it is not possible to do a genetic trace-back, like with viruses or bacteria. There are, however, a variety of strains, which may shed a little bit of light...
I think that depends on where you are in the epidemiological progression.
Early on, before the disease is endemic and there are few positives and little accumulation of prions in the environment, removing positives would likely have a positive effect. But you would have to do it in perpetuity...
1,2: Mid-sized 4x4 with typical Montana crabby forks.
3. Depends on whether I was ready to be done hunting or not. I don’t care about the antlers. If I was satisfied with him as an ending to my season that day, yes. If I wasn’t ready to be done hunting yet, then no. I will say he’s far nicer...
I didn’t realize they issued replacements for positive animals. I don’t like it, for the reasons you mention. Should be the risk you take hunting in a positive area.
Just had one of ours come back positive. Didn’t look sick or skinny, appeared outwardly normal. It was boned out in the freezer awaiting results. It’s going to be going to the landfill when I get home. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m not big on using hunters for this due to the optics. It’s not a game species and is otherwise protected- that’s a shitty spot to put hunters in. Why not have Wildlife Services do it? Or contract it out?
