This was one thing I noticed while listening….
They’d comment about hunter surveys being expensive and aerial flights being expensive but then they came right out later and said that the budget is not an issue and that it doesn’t prevent them from conducting any necessary biological work and...
I understand and agree with your point. I’d say that they accurate herd numbers trump most other numbers but it’s important to have complete data if possible.
We’re on the same page.
I disagree. You need both.
How else do you manage the surplus if you don’t know how much of it is being removed? Also, hunter numbers, where, when, is all relevant information. There’s no situation where too much information is going to be a problem.
They have the budget to get all the data...
Without good data (and current data) they don’t know what they are managing.
Think of it as a rancher that doesn’t know how many cattle he has, how many calves are born each year, how many get shipped to slaughter, etc.
Just because he’s always shipped 100 cows out every November must mean...
After listening the day one of the CAC it is glaringly obvious that there is a serious lack of data.
The hunter surveys are not producing much feedback and FWP doesn’t seem interested in mandatory reporting of any kind. They said multiple times that it’s difficult to mandate hunter reporting...
Listening to the meeting is eye opening. He’s explaining just how useless the survey system is. I don’t know know why they even have a survey after listening to this. Amazing. It’s absolutely incredible listening to him defend the current system and make excuses for it. It’s obvious it’s just...
I hear you there. I was trying to say that the combination of season dates coupled with limiting numbers has worked pretty well in those locations.
I’m of the opinion that both are necessary.
As you mention, those are still general tags and not true LE units. It’s doable
Yes, if that’s what it takes to get the agencies tasked with taking them off the ESL to actually do it. It shouldn’t take an act of congress to do this.
I completely understand your logic but due to the incompetence and legal shenanigans it seems that it may in fact be a good thing that...
Exactly.
These are the folks that are not going to want their dates changed and elk seasons modified to accommodate helping MD in R7 & 6. At least that’s how they see it.
The new normal, as you put it, is acceptable and they don’t want to lose any “opportunities “ they currently have. I hope...
Because they can throw the kids in and go get them a deer with ease. And has “traditionally” not been an issue shooting rut crazed MD in those regions until too many people started to do it. And the areas around home are managed differently. R7 is and has long been a free for all.
No worries...
Dude, that’s not what I’m saying.
What part of “it’ll be easier to make changes if it’s not a statewide proposal “
are you not understanding?
I’m all for making changes.
Don’t put words in my mouth just because I’m giving my opinion of a better way to present things in order to make it a...
Not disagreeing with you about that. There’s definitely a need to address the other regions. R6 & 7 are the most dire and are the ones most often mentioned when the discussion is had.
I’m just sharing my opinion on how I think it could be presented and implemented in a way that is going to get...
I believe that most people do in fact see it as an R7 problem (and R6) for the most part. That’s why I think it’s important to implement changes regionally rather than the entire state.
I say this in a constructive way as I believe it could be the difference between gaining support or getting...
Copy that. I’m not innocent either. My point is that @Eric Albus suggestion that we limit rifles to one weekend and then primitive muzzle loaders and bows in order to reduce harvest is not going to gain any traction. Guarantee FWP wouldn’t even listen to that proposal.
It’s one of those...
I agree with what you are saying but it’s not the cause. The cause is quantity of people. Addressing this as a method of take issue isn’t going to work. I’m not in any way saying that I disagree with your statement. I just think that it has to be delivered differently in order to gain support...
