It is pretty easy to put a couple wraps of tape on a water bottle/trekking pole/etc. and re-use.
This year I repackaged MTN house into quart Ziploc bags and used a insulated pouch for the first time. Saved some weight, a lot of space (was in a bear container area) and i could use the pouch as...
I don't know the exact years of expiration but we routinely use expired cans for training and practice. I've never seen one not go off. I did have an old can rust around the nozzle and break off as i was pushing through brush. That was unpleasant.
Where I live in northern SE May means dragging herring around for King Salmon. Generally, fishing improves for other species as the month progresses. If I were you, I'd figure out the nearest ADF&G sportfish office to where you want to hunt, and give the area bio a call. This is a good time of...
In this case I had to open the actual guts of the motor casing, take screws out, because I could tell small bits of meat were getting in there. It is a Weston too, a brand i associate with quality. I knew I was buying a cheap one, still figured it would be better.
Keep and eye out for “stone men” and blinds. Pretty cool to glass from a spot where ancient hunters watched for game in a landscape that probably hasn’t changed that much.
I bought one of the cheaper ones just for jerky. Used it last night for the first time and wasn’t impressed. I got the meat cut but it was a pain to clean. Had to take the thing apart to get the little bits out of machine.
For me it has changed. Early in my career I was all about fish and wildlife technician work, getting my hands on critters in wild places: fieldwork. But, having seasoned a little, there is something to be said for getting projects done: being part of an access project, replacing culverts...
re: head net
Sorry Ive been out of the country. I've rarely used a head net in SE Alaska. But, it doesn't cost you much in weight and warm still air on the mud flats can equal powerful no see ums. The worst IMO.
I've shot a few, all with a 338, sometimes with two shots. I've helped pack out a bunch more, and i can't ever recall a moose hunt where getting the animal out wasn't the primary challenge of the trip. So i guess I'd err on the side of knock down power.
I’m new on here but have lived in SE AK for 18 years. I often run a light Goretext, like paclite, and a heavy non-breathable commercial fishing style jacket, like Grudens or HH. I keep the light layer on almost all the time on as a windbreak, bug layer, light rain layer. But, if I am going to be...
