I treat bottom metal case by case. If I'm installing pillars then I bed, or if it looks like the BM is flexing while tightening the action screws then I'll bed. I think it's easier to do the action first and BM second.
Pick yourself up some 1/4-28 bolts and cut the heads off to use for...
It's both. Original patents at the turn of the century were for "silencers."
That goes through me almost as much as hearing somebody chew with their mouth open.
I was sent some photos of the rib installed.
For the No.1 version I'm going to cantilever over the top of the receiver a little bit, that should give enough space for the higher mag scopes.
I'd give a hard look to the 250gr Partitions, The 250gr Grand Slams, and the 250gr Barnes. I think the 250's should be around 2800fps max in your barrel.
Give the Hawks their fair test too, I know a lot of folks really like them.
It was mentioned in his moose thread, @44hunter45 commissioned me to build him a rifle. Another rifle he was having built wasn't going to make deadline so we put a rush order in on a new barrel.
He drove the rifle down, went over specs and did a little BS'n.
Once the barrel showed up...
You're over thinking this @Dave N . Since your gun isn't really accommodating for a cartridge holder, I'd either keep a few in your bino harness, or you can get cartridge wallets for your belt or backpack strap. I'm not really a fan of sling mounted cartridge holders, myself.
You can practice...
There are some good REP stamped guns out there, but you need to really go over them. The later models were pretty decent.
The JM guns are pretty solid all around.
The new Ruger made guns are equal to or better than the JM guns. I have seen a QC issue here and there for the new guns, but it's...
Bedding is to make up for any machining/ inletting imperfections to give the action a perfect mating surface. There can still be issues even with an aluminum bedding block.
That being said, Howa's usually shoot pretty good right out of the box. I'd check the action screw torque and get some...
Just back from the range. It's still a healthy push but it's not unpleasant.
Marlin 336 takedown that I'm building. It's a shop gun so sort of on the back burner until I get caught up a bit.
