Bison - Do We Care (Enough)?

Carne asada marinade 2lbs flank steak, Denver steak, or whatever, sliced 3/4" thick in 3" wide strip, whatever length fits on your grill. 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup soy sauce Juice from 2 limes Juice from 2 oranges 1 tsp ground cumin 4 garlic cloves, pressed or very finely chopped 1/2 cup...

Raffle tags - yeah or nay?

My opinion of raffle tags is much more positive than my opinion of auction tags (which I have very mixed feelings about), when done right - limited number of tickets sold or limited number per person. Utah's expo raffle tags make me sick, but that's one kind of extreme. I also don't like the...

    Paying for Comforts with Wildlife

Comments in favor of alternative C for "no action" and not authorizing the project. Pertinent links: https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2020804/510 https://www.blm.gov/announcement/blm-seeks-public-input-esmerelda-7-solar-projects-nevada...

    The King's Elk -- Op-ed in Wyofile

All of your points are well refuted in the article, so I won't spend any time on that. You constantly assert that landowner tags are known a priori to be best for wildlife, landowners, and non-landowner hunters, and that we should all just roll over and submit to your superior intellect and...

    The King's Elk -- Op-ed in Wyofile

Colorado and New Mexico elk tags are mostly a success for a few people, gaining money or flaunting the NAM with extra cash, public wildlife for private benefit. Landowner tags don't seem to help the resource, and for the public who would be having their wildlife (or some surrogate like tags or...

    First Wyoming Antelope Hunt

I can't recommend them to anyone, definitely a buyer beware situation. There isn't anything easy about these units, and it isn't the quintessential antelope hunting experience. The three big reasons they are easy to draw are that they have limited public land, or most of it is landlocked...

Bison filet, squash casserole from the garden, asparagus. Simple, and even my kids eat it.

    NR DIY Caribou Hunt

There are only really 2 out of about 30 herds where that is available to nonresidents, hardly cause for joy. Dig deeper and you'll see that most herds are in decline, and overall numbers are falling as well.

    Euro mount sheep smell

I'd put it in a garage or screened porch outside for a couple weeks. If you spray it, almost all of those things will yellow with time and look ugly. The smell will dissipate after a little while.

    MT wilderness mountain goat tag

They don't hide, much, but the bulk of them are pretty far back. I'm sure any scouting trip will turn some up. Enjoy the tag, go early and go often!
