The FWP leadership puts no value in wildlife anymore, and that's just a fact. I simply don't understand how someone in the Directors seat can care so little about the wildlife they supposedly care about.
It's also startling the lack of transparency and support that same leadership gives to...
We book the entire boat 8 guys and we fish either 3 or 4 days and just split all the fish equally. The same applies to times when my buddy Tom and I fished with people we didn't know, equal split of fish.
Nothing ever goes perfectly on these trips, its Alaska and you just roll with it, part of...
Was just getting ready to head out to the field for the day to work when the first plane hit. Had a short drive to the work site followed by about a 2 hour hike. Didn't learn of the second plane until we were driving back. Ran into a tremendous bull elk, extra-large sized 6 point with about 20...
Just got home yesterday from the annual AK trip. Was a good trip and we're already booked for 25 and 26, I'm not quitting until I'm dead. Then one final trip to leave part of my ashes there, one of my favorite places on planet earth.
Can't beat this sight:
One of the best days I've spent on...
I normally have a local smith spin mine off before and just send in the action. The one I didn't do that for, pacnor sent my barrel back...they should have chucked it, it was totally shot out.
Right, I've hunted the same general areas for a long time, but the spots on the spot have changed.
One place I've shot a half dozen bulls in a small area isn't worth a chit anymore due to massive blow down. The elk flat don't use it anymore, total waste of time to hunt it now.
IME, if a person gets too one dimensional even in spots you know well, it's not good.
Going back to the same well will bite you eventually.
Things constantly change. Places I could kill elk just about anytime I wanted to have dried up for various reasons. But I've kept moving and finding new...
Very much this, don't be an assclown, be patient, be helpful, be on time (on time is half an hour early), and do what they ask. Same goes for fishing/hunting in AK on boat based deals as well. Don't stand around like a stupid client, untangle your own lines, net your buddies fish if the captain...
It's just dumb, period. FFS, just use a landmark where the animal was standing and hike your ass on over there and find it.
This is just another gimmick, PT Barnum had it right.
I don't think you'll find one mainly because there are too many variables.
For instance, if a cow is killed early, and the calf is on its own and is killed by a predator, well, that's predation that killed it. Who knows if that same calf would have lived if the cow wasn't killed.
The studies...
The jail part and taking your drivers license are counter intuitive, tough to pay for your kids when you don't have a job sitting in the slam. Also pretty tough to get to work if you can't drive a car.
No doubt the brilliant idea pushed by the privatized, for profit prison system. Can't turn a...
I think it depends almost 100% with predator density and if the calves are left on their own or can keep up with the rest of the herd. I also think later in the year it's less of an issue and most survive because they've moved to winter range.
That said, I try hard to not shoot cows with...
Wonder how it is a person has ever recovered 4-5 hundred animals without one?
Put me down for 2...because like my maternal Grandfather would say about worthless gear, "that way you can crap on one and cover it up with the other."
In fairness he was inclined to being a bit blunt...
Woodsmanship is a thing of the past...everyone needs another crutch.
Its amazing we ever killed anything prior to 2000. Wool pants, fanny packs, green box ammo, old timer knives...damn lucky to be alive to tell about it.
