Yes they absolutely can- speaking from a fair position of knowledge on this one as a current parent to a D1 athlete receiving a scholarship. Her freshman year was a bit stressful for this very reason (that and because she had grown very unaccustomed to sitting on the bench).

I’m in agreement with your point though- they’ve been able to bounce with virtually zero repercussions, leaving the kids on the team high and dry, for years.
My opinion: the frustration amongst coaches has much more to do with the ability of players to easily transfer out of their program than it does the players getting paid.
I agree. They have been a doormat for a very long time, but I feel that may have finally changed. I’m not surprised they beat Nebraska, but I did not see this result happening today.
