I was going to post this yesterday but forgot. A simple and very flavorful dish that can be made with any white meat (turkey, quail, chukar, chicken). I had some quail from this last season so it’s what I used. Chicken stock can be used if you don’t make your own game stock.
3 cups quail...
They are awesome and I highly suggest you use them. When I hunted two seasons ago I filled two of my doe whitetail and one of my doe antelope in a walk in area. The whitetail are only on private in this unit so it was nice having somewhere to hunt where I didn’t need to gain permission.
The area I would hunt is most likely still snowed in. Check out Burnt Canyon, North Fork of Rainey Creek, and Mike Harris Creek. The key to this unit is pockets that don't have trails.
I’ve always wanted to head that way to hunt them. I hear it tough but fun. The heat won’t bother me much haha. I’m shed hunting and scouting in 115 degree weather all summer haha. But now I’m miserable once it gets below 45 haha
I’ve heard all the negatives about the nonpermit elk hunts. What I have discovered is the elk are there, of course not in high numbers, but there’s always a chance. A couple years ago I bought the $50 nonresident elk tag for the 13A/13B. For them to pretty much give the tags away I knew the...
Yesterday I applied for a tag for most species and a point for the others here in Nevada. I‘ve been just buying elk points until I had a year where I could take at least 7 days to hunt and this is that year. I should be at the top of the point pool so I’ve got high hopes. But it is Nevada so...
I didn’t realize how old this post was. I wish I was more active last year. I know that area very well and there are plenty of deer and elk in that unit especially if you like backpacking. Beautiful country.
My guess is nonresident will be slightly down. Residents will hunt in there states no matter what. I think the economy could impact harvest numbers. For in state, tags are the cheap part. How far and how long you hunt is where the money is spent. Plus I think a lot of people will use PTO...
Just about finished. Just need to put the stabilizer on it. For any of you that don’t know what that is, it’s like a really thin stock butt that’s not classified as a stock by the ATF. The reason for that is so this .223 can be classified as a pistol instead of a short barrel rifle which...
The "celebrity" hunter I can't stand more than anyone is Randy, and right now I really dislike him. He tells us "don't delay on your dream hunts", "don't wait till next year", etc...... We'll that's not possible for some of us.....is what I normally think when people say that. But then Randy...
I hear we have some in our mountains around Vegas, but I've never seen any. Haha but I've also never gone looking. This year I'm going to try to look for them while shed hunting. I used to find them in Idaho, and sure do miss eating them.
262 is an awesome area!!!! Ive ben hunting cow elk on the table in unit 16 for years and really want to hunt bulls on it otherwise I would had 262 to my list of hunting areas. Lots of elk if you know where to look and some bomber bulls in there. I've been shocked where I've found piles of...
I’ll also add to what’s already been mentioned, one tough thing to add to the equation is Nevada looks at all 5 choices before going to the next application number. So someone who may have applied for that tag on there 2nd-5th choice could have drawn an earlier choice. So with 9 points, there...
Nevada has some of the most complicated odds to figure out. Just pay for gohunt. Not only does it give you the best idea of what your odds are, they also do a lot for conservation.
Amen!!!! Just cook it right and it will taste good. I don’t bleed out anything other than shoot it, and I don’t age anything. Most of the meat is wrapped and in the freezer within a day or two. Take your time cleaning it, cool it down quick, and cook it right. That’s all it takes. No need...
I had a hunting friend tell me he hates mule deer meat. So I took on the challenge and grilled up some backstrap from a November killed, rutted up desert mule deer that had most of his teeth worn down. To this day he still thinks I cooked him beef. The secret is to cook it hot and too a...
