If you have access to private property and you intend to stay on that private property then you can apply for a type 2 license. If you look up the leftover draw for 2018 you will see that there was a quota of 888 tags and only 180 first, second and third choice applicants combined. Easy-peasy...
You could fairly end the point system by discontinuing the sale of points and allowing those points on the books to be used up. Its fair and in about a dozen years the point system has been flushed out.
Thanks guys. All of your view points and comments are appreciated. The primary hunt I am considering is in the GYE. It looks like incredibly beautiful country and I don't want to miss out on it. So hopefully I can do it smartly.
Thanks again.
I have been considering an archery elk hunt in grizzly country. My usual hunting partner is not to excited about that. I'm not afraid of the bears to the point where it would keep me from enjoying a hunting trip but I want to be as smart about it as possible and know all my options.
I was...
OnX. But if you are simply looking for ownership information as in private vs. public you can google up something like "Wyoming ELK GMU 39 Map MyTopo" and see a useful map for that unit to determine the amount and distribution of public and private lands. And if you decide to hunt the unit...
Sounds like a fun trip. Mexico and spearfishing are both incredible.
It sounds like spearfishing is new to you, so in case you aren't aware, spearfishing is no permitted while using scuba gear. As a matter of fact scuba gear is not even allowed on board the boat while spearfishing. Breath...
Oryx is indeed good and tender too.
Top 5 (Only includes what I myself have taken)
Scallops
Mallards (you really can't lump all ducks together) :)
Pronghorn
Quail/Chukar
California yellowtail
Hopefully this doesn't happen.
What is the protocol if your mortally wounded game crosses unit boundaries and or state lines yet remains on public where you are free to go but not hunt because of the tag restriction. Go get it? Call a warden?
I don't believe that it is correct at all.
If you apply for two on one application you can get 0, 1 or 2 assuming your unit allows for two.
Now that the water is sufficciently muddied, I'd suggest to TJT96 you call Wyoming yourself. They are very helpful.
Thanks guys. Its just good to know rules. I prefer to hunt in such a manner that I never have to look over my shoulder.
So no difference in the wilderness areas? Are there just as many roads, trails development as in National Forrest?
Wyoming-
Aside from the rule that requires NR hunters to be accompanied by a guide or resident, what distinguishes Wilderness areas from non-wilderness areas? I imagine that there is something more than just decree and line on a map.
Secondly, how is the rule of "accompanied" by a resident...
I think your spot on. Some of the tags I'v looked at are very much management tags designed to keep elk out of agricultural fields or a ranchers grazing allotment. Good deal I suppose if you want meat for the freezer, but if your looking for the experience of hunting inside the national...
To the OP.
I have been going through the same heartache trying to make a decision. I was considering hunting the cow tag in the same unit as MNElknut suggested, but some of the units I was considering either have no cow/calf tags or the cow/calf tags are for subsections of the unit that are...
