Im in NY and watched a tom breed a hen a couple days ago. I was walking a tote road and stumbled across the love making lol.
A minute later another Tom came running up the road and I watch the two toms fight for 10 minutes.
Needless to say, I’m fired up for the season.
Got my gun out to pattern it at 25 yards. Recoil is enough that I don’t shoot anymore than I have to.
My gun only runs 2-3/4 shells, so I use Winchester 1-1/2 oz 4 shot.
What do you all run? Any reason I should consider a change?
Below is a photo of my artwork and shot. Most of the pellets to...
As I mentioned, I’m laid off indefinitely from my job in the city. I work for a design/build firm as the director of operations/lead carpenter.
My girlfriend (soon to be fiancé) and I are leaning pretty heavily on going balls to the wall and moving out of the city full time. We have a cabin...
I’ve got a model seven in 7-08. It’s actually a youth model gun that my dad gave me when I was 13. It’s only a 18.5 barrel, but I’ve found that it shoots well.
I’m not like a lot of the gun nerds on here though. If I can shoot it prone off a pack and put together decent groups I consider it a...
I have a t3x hunter in 30-06. It’s a bit heavier rifle than the lite so I can’t speak to the recoil, but that’s the caliber I’d choose.
I also have a 7-08 Remington that I love (super compact rifle), but the factory ammo options aren’t as variable as the 30-06. Honestly, my 7-08 with a 18.5”...
I’ve never hunted western MA, but I believe there are some decent muzzleloader opportunities for whitetail. Maine is an obvious one. The Rangley Lakes region is not too far of a drive for you. However, Maine is a blue laws state, so plan wisely.
Just got laid off from my job in Brooklyn. Saw a local fly shop hiring in the town where our cabin is located. I’m probably under qualified, but I’ll apply and see.
Doesn’t seem likely that we will be working again until at least June. I’m starting to think it’s time for a change and a move out...
Hey guys,
I bought a half dozen Wildgame Innovations cameras over the last year and have had mixed success. I know they’re cheap, but I can’t imagine that all 6 don’t work already!
It seems that when I first put them out with a fresh card they function decently. However, I usually hike in...
I officially got laid off of work, so I’ll be trying to put a few more on our plates. Nothing beats the unemployed blues like getting out in a canoe and remembering that we’re all lucky to be breathing and paddling!
Thanks for the tips. Pretty much went with the keep it simple.
Stuffed it with green onion, red onion, garlic, and butter. Rubbed it in salt, pepper and oil and then wrapped it and grilled it.
I normally don’t keep brown trout, but given my desire to stay out of the grocery, I stuck an 18” brown today with my fly rod. I was casting an olive bugger to the edges of the ice line as it’s receding here in the Catskills.
Going to serve it up tonight but wondering if any of you have good...
I got out of there last week because I agree that things will be pretty bleak there. I’m thankful I have a place to get away to. Going to be interesting to return to when this clears. Hopefully my apartment won’t be ransacked...
I’m thinking that my scouting should really turn up a notch the couple of weekends before opening day. I should be able to hit some ridge tops and call and listen for responses.
I’ve had success hunting turkeys in fields, but I’m looking to turn one up in the big woods.
I scouted a spot on public land where a power line runs through a system of ridges alongside a creek bottom...Essentially a field in the middle of timber. Last year, I cut some turkey tracks in there...
Yeah, I have residence upstate, so I would be driving from there to the airport. Thanks for the help. I wasn’t sure if flying out of NYC posed its own chAllenges
