Wool can't be beat, here in Maine for winter ice fishing 20/30 below. Standard to see Woolrich "Malone" 30 oz to yard, pants and bibs. If it starts blowing hard simply pull out a cheap pair of rain pants and block the wind and wool pants are good to 40 below.

Alaska Forest Service uses 12ga pumps with 3" chambers. Lots of folks Luv 45/70. But infact a 30/06 with 180gr bullets will shoot right straight thru an 7/800 lb Bear.........
A .223/ 7mm08 will cover about all general hunting. If your going after Elk/ Moose or big Bears a 30/06 with a 180/220 bullet will finish the list.......
