Remington has two 870's
870 Wingmaster, nicely blued at MSRP of 847$
870 Express, matt blued MSRP of 417$
I have used an Express for over 20 years with no complaints but if looks matter the Wingmaster is very nice.
I have used it in 30-06, 243, 6mm rem, 300 SAUM and 338 Win. My take is it is a a good powder but doesn't do anything other powders do in the ones I reload. I have had no issues like pressure spikes and have burned about 4#s.

This hunt was last week of April. We were a week or two early but everyone had chances and saw bears. Elevation was not very high, 2000' at river and however high you went up.
Idaho 2013
Hunted bear in 2013 and went up the Salmon River in one of these.
Hunted areas like this.
This was a guided hunt but they do take hunters up to hunt with there own gear and camp.
I have no personal interaction with this outfitter but have read and heard good things.

I would bite the bullet and spend the money for a guided hunt for both of you. It will be memories that will last your whole life.
Also some outfitters charge a reduced price for you to go with but not hunt.
I have found the Nosler loading manual to be very good at letting you know which powder and how much worked. With Nosler bullets this is always my first option.
I do not load for the 26 Nosler but everything I do load for has found this info a very helpful.
I have used 85 TSX out of a 20" 243 and killed deer. I use Ramshot Hunter and get over 3000 fps. I have also used H4350 with good results. The 223 with ttsx bullets will kill deer just as dead. As to barreling to 308 a good barrel is 300$ and another 300 to put it on. You can buy a 308 and...
They are a fine bullet for deer and elk and will not wear the barrel any more than other ammo. If they shoot well in your rifles you made a good purchase. Life of an 06 barrel is in the thousands so I would not worry.
If riding horses do some riding before and wear some thin slick long johns to keep from getting chaffed. The wife wore bicycle shorts and they worked well.
If you are not reloading I would look at Barnes vortex ammo in 150 gr. and 168 gr. and go with the one that shoots the best.
Nosler also has E-tip ammo in 150 and 168 that might be something to try.
I have done a few loper hunts and have camped out in the open, put my pickup camper in an r/v campground and stayed in motels. Putting the camper in a r/v campground was by far the most comfortable and least hassle. It was never more than a short drive to the hunting area and a nice...
There is also 140 Gr. Nosler E-Tip ammo.

I would use one of these Barnes bullets. Huge hollow point under the plastic tip.
