Ok. quick breakdown. Forgive me if redundant, I didnt read the whole damn thread.
You need to build prey drive in the dog....shoot pigeons as marks for his retrieves, 2-3 birds a couple times a week. If he has prey drive and is bringing you birds, great...your half way there.
Once that game is...
Buy 3 dozen oversized socks and put one decoy in each, then drag them thru the swamp and remove each as you put out the spread ..:)....all sarcasm intended.
Good ideas though. Never thought about clear coating.....guess I am a bit slow....been pissed all these years about the finishes rubbing off
Depends on the kid. I have one that is 16 and extremely recoil/pop shy- he is working his way up to 243 still....---its mental for him---frustrating for me, one of my other boys took my 270WSM at 10 years old and never looked back- my 3rd boy is between the other two...
Know your kid a bit and...
Lol....Cinnamon teal are hard to beat, but when you think about it......God did some great artwork on the pintail, shoveler, widgeon and many others. Ducks in general win the beauty contest......but a Mtn quail is up there too....

I am a NR and see what were easy to get with 2 point units 4-5 years ago now at 6-7-8 points.....kinda nuts, but it is what it is...
Trailsend- great point. Having a great dog requires quite a commitment- the more time you put into the dog, the better it will turn out, granted all the genetics show up. That means house manners, socialization and field work. Some are just defective, but its more rare among well-bred lines...
Its nothing new. Same type of case happened down SW Colorado abut 20 years ago. Guy built a bullet proof gate on the side of a cliff- claiming his mining claim is private. Blocked a ton of access off to the best elk and deer- brought his asshole texas friends with him to threaten anyone that...
Another vote for the drahthaar. I had 3 great labs! last one was a whiner in the blind- annoying....but was driven like a GSP. All three labs were great on upland birds.
Since I spend more time hunting upland birds, I decided to try a Draht after seeing the temperament and handle-ability of a...
