I just purchased this combo on Amazon for an upcoming backpacking trip. Haven't used it yet, but the rod and reel feel like they are good quality. The case is kind of a weird shape, but I like how it holds your tackle and accessories. It fits in my pack really nice. I'm looking forward to...
Selway 60 is right in between those two. It is a minimalist bag that doesn't have a lot of organization pockets, but that can be remedied with dry bags/stuff sacks. It's a lightweight option that can accommodate what you need.
Or buy both bags as they should both fit on the new guide light...
It's funny, but my first post ever on this forum was on par with this, minus a lot of the requirements. I think you are allowed one of these posts as a new member of HuntTalk. Don't forget to copy and paste to RokSlide too!!
It is intimidating planning your first DIY western hunt and does feel...
It's really pretty easy for most of the seasons. It really depends on what you are hunting. The rules and regs are pretty standard across most counties, but the dates and limits vary from county to county and zone to zone. Be sure to download the Texas Outdoor Annual app and keep it up to date...
I have one. It's a decent scope but a bit on the heavy side. The glass is ok. It's comparable to Vortex Viper line in my eyes. The tracking is spot on, holds zero as it should, and is easy to adjust the turrets (nice audible clicks). There are no zero stops, but they make some shims that can go...
- Army Combat Engineer - We went back and forth with this for a while last summer and eventually it was vetoed... If I was on my own I'd do it, it is physical and also has engineering/math/phsyics/thought involved. However, with kids in the future I couldn't imagine being deployed if she's...
I have a used Horn Hunter Full Curl Pack (Stone Color) I'm looking to sell. I purchased it last June. I recently upgraded to a Mystery Ranch Selway and looking to offset some of the cost. I've used it on one backcountry hunt and several hikes around the neighborhood. It's in great condition, no...
I went on my first mule deer hunt in central Idaho last year. I did much of my research on GoHunt, IDFG, and forums. A lot of good information out there as far as hunt success rates, estimated deer populations, etc. Pick a couple units and don't go driving all over the dang state. The roads in...
I carry a U rest attachment for my tripod. Snaps in just like your bino mount or spotting scope. It's very light and if you are already packing a tripod it's not a bad solution.

Another vote for the FL uncompahgre vest. I have mine in black and wear it everywhere in the winter months. It's just a nice vest. Doubles as a pillow too.
I bought the vortex crossfire II 2-7x32 rimfire for around $130 on optics planet. It's a pretty nice scope for that price point. Put it on my Ruger 10/22 and that thing is a squirrel killing SOB.
I saw a lot of hunters with chest freezers in the back of their trucks in Idaho. This seems like a great idea as those are well insulated and are much cheaper than a yeti cooler. I got a 5 cubic ft freezer from walmart for $99 on black friday. You could get one of those and just plug it in when...
I like that plan. Let me know what you do to convince her and I'll try the same haha. I always dream about moving to a western state like Montana or Idaho whenever summer rolls around here in Texas, but I can never make it a reality.
I use the Army gortex jacket and pants or sometimes just the Army poncho. That stuff keeps you dry and isn't too heavy and is cheap. It can be a little loud though.
