    Hey man, I came across your thread about desert elk near Pocatello. I’m meeting a friend there and we’re going out in the snake river unit. First time for desert elk for me, did you find any success there? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

    What I have heard on the Snake River Zone is pretty much to try and find a lot of boundaries between farm fields and the public areas. What I have heard is: multiple fields on a target list, check for tracks and try to catch them as they bounce between three or four different fields. We never made it out to Big Desert, had to hunt another zone.

    Unit 70 is a tough one to hunt. I think a lot of weekend warriors pack up from Poky and hit the area around the forest - elk are there, but they run to the reservation quickly. I have seen more elk in 72, 73, and 74. Just got done with a week long hunt and we were into bulls almost everyday playing in those three units.

    Thanks for the response. Yeah just trying to fill the cow tag for some meat for the fam. Looks like 73 has the most non-private land opportunities. Have heard that it’s hard to get the elk off private in 72/74 after the season starts also.

    73 can get a little crowded I think. It can be hard to find them off of private, but it's certainly harder to try and get them off the reservation!! That's the big problem in 70/71. I live in Pocatello, and have hunted Bannock most of my life. Really happy they have the late muzzleloader hunt!!!

    I saw your post about helping a family member with a predator problem west of Cascade. I don't have enough posts to send a pm so I would like to hear from you.

    They have since mostly eliminated the predator problem with a couple years of aggressive hunting. If they need any other help I will let you know.

    how's it going. I was reading a post that you replied to and had seen that you are from American falls. I love that place, lots of bird hunting and fishing. i shot my first Canada goose there in 1985 with some family. My brother farmed in that area for years.
