    Early Spring migrants

A few photos from yesterday...none are migrants. I did see shovelers showing up, so hopefully some new spring migrants any day now.

    Montana Rams

That old winter coat must itch.

    Montana Rams

I found this same ram within a few meters of where I found him last September. Last September 2024, he was on a cliff looking down at me at 10 yards: This week March 2025, I was on the cliff and he climbed up to it and was about 20 yards away at eye level. The wind was in my face and I did...

    Early Spring migrants

Not a migrant, but spring calving season. Eagles are attracted to the afterbirth.

    Early Spring migrants

Widgeon from yesterday. They were the most common duck we shot during the AK September season. Good eating there. I hear they are not good eating in saltwater areas like coastal OR/WA.

    Early Spring migrants

When I lived in Alaska there was a "spring subsistence" season for villages and also smaller towns like Nenana, Delta, Tok qualified. Cranes, geese and ducks. The regular fall season started Sept 1, so 10 "brown ducks" was the daily limit, 30 in possession. Usually did not see a greenhead...

    Garmin inreach or Zoleo?

I pay $12 per month for my InReach. I've been using an InReach for about a dozen years now, started in Alaska, and now in Montana, many areas I frequent have no cell coverage.

    recession?

Consumer confidence had it's biggest monthly decline since August 2021. Markets sold off today as investors worried whether tariff uncertainty could steer the economy into recession. The S&P 500’s post-election rally has been more than erased, with the index declining 2.7% to start the week and...

    Sunday Pic of the Day

Spring has sprung. Meadowlarks singing at every pasture here in Montana.

Fairbanks, AK things to do/places to eat?

Good suggestions! I lived near Fairbanks for 30 years before retiring and moving to Montana. The pumphouse can be hit or miss, most of the time excellent, a couple times dry halibut, nearly raw shrimp, etc. Crowded with tourists during the summer, we usually ate there only during the...

    Favorite animal to hunt?

Moose. The same thrill as calling in a spring gobbler, except 500+ pounds of excellent meat.
