RG_Adult_Onset_Hunter
I am what some would call an adult-onset hunter. I have always had an interest in the shooting sports, food, the outdoors, and animals; yet the guidance to get into hunting was just never there. When I think about some of the essential components to a hunter and how many of them I have possessed for a long time, it's almost bizarre that I did not get into this sooner. My wife and I are avid farmers and cooks, and as I sought out ingredients for more traditional preparations, I soon came to realize that hunting was probably the best possible way to get them.
In my mid 30's I took my first deer with archery equipment, 8 yards away. I spent a lot of time throughout the season in a tree (I am a saddle hunter for life now) to get that buck. He was a nice 4x4, but he could have been a 3 tine forky and still ended up on my wall; the effort I put into that animal was the trophy. I'd done a fair amount of turkey hunting, and some mixed small game hunting prior to that, but for whatever odd reason I did not feel like I had figured it out till I had those antlers in my hands. It's a powerful cocktail of emotions that I wish more people had the oppurtunity to experience. I look forward to a lot more like it, hopefully with a little help from the kind folks here.
P.S. I have been fishing since I was quite young, but have always been and will likely always be terrible at it.
