Incidentally a quick internet search revealed that there are several landowners who own WAY more than 140k acres.
Wilkes brothers 350k
Galts 250k
Stan Kroenke 225k
Robert Holding (never even heard of him) 215k acres..
Plumb Creek tops the list but through great work by a variety of partners...
I always hear about people replacing the extractor with a Sako extractor because it was a weak point.. though I never ever met anyone who broke one. As for accidental discharge? IDK.. I basically never put one in the pipe unless I was ready to shoot backing up a hunter or tracking a wounded...
Here’s mine. It’s is a rebarrelled LH 700. I was given the stock by a friend. I sanded off the fiberglass and patched it with marine epoxy to lower the comb. I shot it a little with a 2x scope but mostly with the Ashley Ghost ring sight. The stock is marked on the comb in inches from 8” to 11”...
Be forewarned, in my experience mountain lakes can be totally dead one day and fantastic the next. I don’t know why. But if your kid wants to splash around and play in the lake after a 2.5 mile hike then incorporate that into the plan. Sometimes more productive and fun than fishing!
I have a mini and would much prefer the larger one. The mini is fine when it’s paired and working well but it would be great not to have to use it through my phone all the time. Sounds like I’m an outlier though.
When I described the current Muzzleloader season as a “red herring” many of you thoughtfully described the reasons that hunting in December might have negative effects beyond harvest. I’m sure you are largely correct. What I meant was that I don’t think these seasons (currently) meaningfully...
I tend to the think the muzzleloader season focus is a red herring. In my experience I’ve met exactly one person who hunted it and zero who killed anything. This is anecdotal obviously, so it could have a localized effect but I doubt its population- level. Is there any evidence to the contrary?
Maybe missed I missed it, but are there “next steps” For those of use who support these ideas? As a general rule I would think supporters advance it and then detractors will have an opportunity to comment or oppose it when it becomes a more concrete proposal. If there is still a developing or...
I love it even though it certainly curtails my opportunity. To paraphrase Aldo Leopold, what good is a limitless season with nothing to hunt? I also agree that although there may be good and thoughtful changes to the proposal all the parts sort of work together you don’t want to pick and choose...
That was snarky but it’s actually true. It is likely to be wet and sometimes buggy in August although depends which August. But very very difficult moose hunting. In August I’ve run into bull moose above timberline and by mistake, and that’s about it. Also on lakes feeding in the evening I suppose.
I guided on the lower Alaska peninsula quite a bit years ago and thought that the big bears, especially in the fall, were like big whitetail bucks, often like shadows. We always cooked in our tents and never ever worries about it. Many of the big bears had birdshot or other projectiles in them...
Makes me wonder what braces cost, we didn’t shop around but had nothing but great experiences with particular ortho and dentist. $5k flat here and not done or fully paid for and another kid to go. Perhaps they are cosmetic but could be pretty fundamental to a lifetime of self-confidence...
I recently read the Molegro Beanfield wars and it sparked my interest in rural New
Mexico. I have no idea of the geography but it seems neat. Thanks for sharing
