  • Hello! My name is Matt. I have seen a bunch of your posts. I just got super lucky and got a cabin up by oaks parks reservoir and was wondering if you could share your knowledge of elk in that area? I’m planning a multi season tag. Thanks! Hope to hear from you!

It’s very crowded during the season. Look for easy areas to hike but over a mile from parking spots. Closed FS roads are great. They make it easy to walk a mile and you will usually find elk around that point. Won’t give out exact locations but it you look to the big ridge line north of east park reservoir and the ClosedFS roads you should stumble into a few bulls

I’m in the same boat. Have hunted Montana and Idaho most of my life and decided to jump in Utah. Considering north or south slope based on statistics.
Hey I’m looking at applying for the type 2 antelope tag in unit 38. And saw you possibly had some info on a older forum. It is for south of hwy 34. Was seeing if you had any info on access for that unit. Not looking for a trophy. Just wanting to fill the tag. Thank you in advance. Feel free to email me at [email protected]
I’m headed to Utah archery elk hunting with hunters choice tag on September 7th-18th. I was thinking about trying the south slope bonanza or Yellowstone. I noticed from some earlier posts you have hunted Utah and was hoping you could give me some advice on good starting points. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help. I have hunted New Mexico and Colorado for elk but never Utah. Thanks again for taking time and helping a fellow hunter. Take care and have a great season.

One more question. Looking at the map, what is the best way to access? Do you take big ridge road (forest road 199)? It looks as though you would have to drive through the Ute land? Just wondering the best way to get there and set up a base camp spot. Thanks again!

After looking at the map again using onX I think I figured it out. Thanks again!

    Sorry,

I last hunted it in 2014 or 2015. There was a huge burn the year before and that was the burn I was talking about.

You do drive through the Indian Land for a little bit. Big Ridge is wide open so watch out for storms. You don’t want to be caught up there in a lightning storm.
Hi utah400elk, I was reading a couple past forum posts and saw you have some information on unit 38 in Wyoming in the southeast corner. there is some leftover tags this year and I would really like to get my girlfriend a chance at an antelope, feel free to email me or message me back here, thanks a ton! email [email protected]

awesome best of luck to you guys, was just going to see how access was south of highway 34 and if you had any luck with landowners giving trespass permission. I think i will put her in and we will go have fun either way successful or not. Thank you

There is plenty of access. Not all are large swaths of public but it is really a very easy quick hunt. As far as ranches…there was a ranch in Farthing called the Farthing ranch that allowed access. Just a little hint…east of farthing there is three sections of public land that parallel the road…running North to south. There have always been antelope there and it connects to County road.
