  • Hello! I saw in some old posts that you have hunted for pronghor in Wyoming area 21. I drew that tag this year and have not hunted that unit before, Would you be able to give me any tips or insight? Appreciate your time, Matt.
Yes, you can have good success on Prince of Wales or Kupreanof in areas near where skiffs can be rented. You will find more pressure, but there are a LOT of bears in that part of AK. If you rent a skiff and run it for 20 miles or so, you will probably find some bears.

Give me your number and if I have an elk that needs a freezer, I will give you a call.
Thanks Randy do you think we would still have success closer to those skiff renting areas? Please feel free to give us a call if you make it into Casper I would love to meet you! Most of all Good luck with the elk hunt for they have evaded us this year.
Jason - It is usually about $500 for airline, another $1,000 for the plane flight to a cabin, and $400 for tags and license. Those are the biggest costs. So, at that point your in it about $1,500 per person. The skiff rental is a hard one to solve. The areas I fly into are so far from anywhere, I can't find one nearby and under the new rules, you cannot have one delivered if you are self-guided. So, you almost need to be close to a place that will rent a skiff. I flew in my inflatable this year, as I have discovered an area that it will work, but most areas that would be a big mistake. Cabin rental is cheap - $30 per night. Go to Tongass National Forest and it has all of the cabins listed there. Note that these are now limited entry draw hunts, with a deadline in December. Hope that helps. Best to you. I will be in your neighborhood from 11/12 to 11/19, filming an elk hunt.

    Randy
