    Northern lights tonight

Here is what I saw last night in Idaho. The phone camera picked up more color and brightness than I could see. Nearly too bright to see the Big Dipper constellation.

Well, it's not good. Not religious but prayers are welcomed.

So sorry you're going through this, Dave. You have been through things I can't imagine, and have done so much for her. We're all here to support you in this difficult time.

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

I need to make time to do that well ahead of hunting season. I processed my elk in the evenings after work, and their customer service line was closed. Once I got it done I mostly forgot about the situation until I saw this thread.

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

I have tried grinding meat at a range of temperatures from cool room temperature to partly frozen. Since the chilled meat just starting to stiffen still had trouble, I left one tray in the freezer until the meat was firm but still could be compressed with my fingers. A few thumb sized chunks...

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

It's supposed to make it so you get the texture of two passes through the grinder on the first grind. Yes, the plate with the large holes is closer to the auger, then the normal plate goes on the other side of the blade against the retaining ring. Here's a video from LEM showing the assembly

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

It's a good question. This dual grind blade is different than what I'm familiar with. Both sides are flat. It has arrows to show which direction it has to turn. I checked it several times to be sure it was correct. I experimented with retaining ring tightness and didn't see much improvement...

Seems to be. It had this problem since the first time I used it.

My Grinder Sucks - Grinder reviews

Has anyone else here had trouble with a LEM dual grind model? Mine does not work well on elk. It seems like it can't handle silverskin at all. I lose so much time clearing jammed parts and waiting for it to cool down after overheating. Each time I reassembled it after unjamming, I made sure...

New 30-06. Thinking about trying copper.

I'll add another vote for the Barnes 150gr TTSX. I have been using it for several years with good results.

    Healthy bread; What is there?

Sure, butter is allowed here. So is honey.

    Healthy bread; What is there?

This was my weekend project recently. It's a family recipe that uses whole wheat and oats. The bread is dense and a bit chewy. I'd like to think it's healthier than average breads. It's an all-day project and quite an upper body workout kneading 10+ pounds of dough.

    The game is changing

I listened to this talk a while back. It seems relevant to this topic. https://www.ted.com/talks/sam_gregory_when_ai_can_fake_reality_who_can_you_trust?language=en

Finance app now that MINT is gone

I have used YNAB for several years. It's mostly good but there are a few annoying bugs and they keep increasing the price.

In pursuit of my first bull - nothing like I had planned.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I had more tests done yesterday, now waiting to hear from the doctor.

    Yet Another Medical Issue

Sorry you're dealing with that. I hope your doctors can find a way to reduce the pain.

Anybody want to hear this story?

Thanks for sharing your excellent story and photos. Congrats on a great bull!

In pursuit of my first bull - nothing like I had planned.

I let myself sleep late the next morning and stayed indoors trying to recover my strength. By late afternoon, I was feeling better enough to try again, but knew I’d be limited in where I could go. After reviewing options I headed toward a place that had good visibility for glassing. It is more...

In pursuit of my first bull - nothing like I had planned.

I returned for the final 4 days of my season. It was now post-rut, the moon was full, and cold weather had returned. I stopped a few places near the main road to glass distant ridges, but didn’t see any animals. I kept driving further into the unit. My truck thermometer read 1˚ mid-morning...
