A good Spring day
I think you live over by Richland don't you? How is the res. doing for crappie and cats this year? Saw that photo of the chest of crappie. Most my crappie came from Prineville Res. and pretty much destroyed it last fall when they ran it out of water. Thing was pretty MTY with just the water...- Don Fischer

I used to shoot them in Colorado and eat them. Kept the small ones and if one looked big, simply let it go. Also discarded any that didn't have a clear liver. I though they were good eating. Have never seen many around here but do see pigmy cotton tails now and then. They are small but good eating!- Don Fischer

How close to camp?
I kind of doubt animals will leave because they smell you at night. Used to take a wife hunting and camping with me and she'd bring her youngest son and while I'd be out hunting they would be watching animals walk through the camp site!- Don Fischer

custom rifle suggestions
Nice job. I prefer blued metal and wood stocks! Just had to do the bedding on one I had barreled to 260 Rem. Smith did a good job on the metal but didn't like the bedding to much. Wasn't shooting well so re-did the bedding and now it shoots great!- Don Fischer

One case for all your rifles
I have a wildcat, 6.5x06. But I've never really understood the need for wildcat's. Shoot I use 140gr bullet's in my 6.5x06 and years ago in a 270 I had I also shot 140gr bullet's! Had a 280 years before that 270 and shot 145gr bullet's in it! The other night I was loading some 243's and 260's...- Don Fischer

Alaskan Bear vs MT/WY Bear
You'll probably find that Yellowstone bears have a lot more inter action with human's than Alaska bears. Imagine getting out of your car to hand feed an Alaskan bear some treats!- Don Fischer

Dog tracking system
I've got a Garmin 430 tracking collar for three dog's. Not one complaint. It is replacing a Garmin 320 I used for well over ten years. Anybody tried loading Speer Impact projectiles yet?
With my 6.5's I've found myself using Speer Hot Core's again after years of Hornady spire points. Used Speer 160gr Hot Cores in a 7mm mag years ago, great bullet! One case for all your rifles
Anybody have several rifles all based on the same cartridge case? I've got a 25-06, 6.5-06 and 30-06. Awful easy to find case's when I need them. Also have a 243, 260, and used a 308 for years. Again, easy to find case's and if you choose military case's, fairly inexpensive to boot. Bullets...- Don Fischer

My son's 2023 Colorado OTC Public Land Bull!
Sitting here thinking there's one huge problem with a bull like that. Some one has to carry it out! Then got to the photo of the 4 wheeler! Got myself one this year for no other reason than at 78 yrs I'm just to old to pack out even a deer any more. Was thinking about hunting just cottontails...- Don Fischer

I'd pass on that 375! What ever it is I'm hunting, I use a rifle I have complete faith in. And of course I'm old so eye's aren't prime. Might think of using my 260 Rem if I was to go with its 2-7x scope set on 2x!- Don Fischer

Speaking of Muflon's, I was up outside town a few years ago and found a young dead one. Called F&G and they told me there were still some running around here and down by the John Day. seem's they were brought in years ago just for people to hunt on private ranch's.- Don Fischer
