I drew east Pennington, I have only ever hunted that unit due to it being close to our ranch. I am interested in hearing about your experience down there.
Extreme drought there, the farther north towards ND you get the worse the drought gets. I would expect to see very few new young birds from current year hatches, likely this season will rely upon older birds on hunts. The drought is rely tough south of Pierre as well.
I would pay attention to drought conditions this year as severe drought impacts pheasant hatch success in a huge way. I live north of Pierre and have only seen one hatch of hen with chicks to date. Our drought conditions are very severe and I hope the farther east areas are faring better, we are...
There is no doubt 2020 comes in as my best hunting year to date. Because of COVID, I had to quarantine 3 different times without coming down with the 'Rona and I took advantage of that time out of the office big time. We started the year by getting my daughter a gobbler in the black hills in...
This year I was beyond fortunate to take a bull much better than I have ever deserved. Big and very, very musky during the middle of the rut. That rutty smell was extremely strong while quartering and remained strong when butchering and packaging. Shot placement was right and not gut shot. I got...
Thanks, that Delta hat has been on quite a few good days. It ended up getting a little bloody after I had taken it off while quartering that bull and rolled him over onto the bill. Pretty musky now but carrying memories of an epic solo hunt.
I took my bull elk after bugling him in at 9 yards this past fall, too close to hear a thud from the bullet impact and too close to sight the rifle through the scope. He started running off after I pulled the trigger and I panicked, running up the ridge so that I could clear the timber and...
I decided to mount my bull this year from Bennett County/Oglala Sioux Tribe. It really wasn't that tough to decide as he is way bigger than other SD elk that I have lucked out on. I am lucky to be a tribal member where there are big prairie elk herds and tags for members.
